Inaugural Alan Oliver YouthNet Memorial Golf Tournament

Inaugural Alan Oliver YouthNet Memorial Golf Tournament

Friday, February 13th, proved that luck is only for the superstitious. The 8th annual memorial golf tournament ran smooth without a glitch. Teams assembled and were ready to have fun while playing in honour of Alan Oliver.

Alan was an avid sportsman representing Bermuda in Rugby. His family from Wales are awed each year with the support of sponsors, players, and friends. Their hope is that this event continues for many years to come to allow young people the opportunity to further their dreams.

In 2008, we held the inaugural Alan Oliver YouthNet Memorial Golf Tournament. The vision was to hold an annual golf tournament where the funds would be used to create a scholarship that would support young people and YouthNet mentees in achieving their sporting goals and pursuing extracurricular activities.

To raise money for YouthNet, each member of each team would pay twenty dollars on the seventh hole. If they made the green, they were to receive a gift certificate. However if they were unable to do so, the money would be their donation to the YouthNet student mentoring program.

Members were delighted as the winners were announce at the end of the day, awarded with hand carved trophies made completely out of cedar.

We look forward to seeing what next year brings.
